Call to Artists
TIMELINE
Submission Deadline: March 3, 2025

Women for Greater Philadelphia in collaboration with Philadelphia Sculptors, invites artists to apply to our upcoming outdoor sculpture exhibition Timeline. The exhibition will take place from July 18 – October 17, 2025 on the grounds of the Laurel Hill Mansion which overlooks the Schuylkill River in East Fairmount Park in Philadelphia. Artists are encouraged to reflect on the Timeline of American history by engaging with the property and its complex history. Long inhabited by the Lenni Lenape, the land was acquired by William Penn in 1682. Constructed in 1767, the Laurel Hill Mansion has had multiple owners and currently is designated as a national historic landmark under the stewardship of Women for Greater Philadelphia. As Philadelphia prepares to celebrate the Semiquincentennial in 2026, this call asks for artists to reflect on the Timeline of, architecture, commerce, farming, Quakerism, land acquisition, women’s rights to property, colonial American history in all its complexity, or simply a of American history. Artists may consider ways of connecting the past to the present by integrating contemporary viewpoints with historical concepts. Jurors will be artists Nancy Agati and Rachel Zimmerman. There is no application fee, but all applicants need to be current members of Philadelphia Sculptors or Women for Greater Philadelphia to be eligible to apply. New members of either organization or both organizations may submit work. For PS membership details go to: https://philasculptors.org/membership and for WFGP membership details go to: https://www.womenforgreaterphiladelphia.org/pages/membership.html .
Artists selected for the exhibition will receive a $100 stipend. For more information and the exhibition prospectus please visit https://laurelhillmansion.org/art.html.
