ABOUT THE EXHIBITION:
Our dependence on carbon-based energy has given the Earth a fever. Our relationship with the natural world is out of whack. By using nature as something to dominate and exploit, we have despoiled the Earth for our short term needs. The Earth has responded to this exploitation with a devastating cycle of extreme weather that will not abate until we stop adding carbon to the atmosphere, which is the result of burning fossil fuels.
Climate driven disasters cost the US over $150 billion each year. Climate change is making us all sicker, leading to more deaths among those without adequate health insurance. And the places, cultural practices, and traditions that anchor many communities whose lives are tightly connected to their environment are threatened by climate change.
Art has the ability to speak to our emotions and can open us up to deeper reflections on our responsibility for changing the earth’s atmosphere and environment. We need to sway public opinion NOW to call for action to reduce carbon emissions to net-zero in order to stop global warming.
Every tenth of a degree of warming we avoid can make a difference.
The Earth Has a Fever will be on view in Gallery 1 at Da Vinci Art Alliance starting July 5 until July 21. The opening reception will take place on Saturday, July 6, from 4-7 pm.
