Emergence: Philadelphia Center for the Book Member Exhibition

“Emergence” is the topic of this year’s Philadelphia Center for the Book Members’ Exhibition at the Moore College of Art and Design, 1916 Race Street Philadelphia, PA 19103-1179.

What does emergence mean to you? How would something that was previously hidden be displayed? In the scientific world, properties or behaviors in an entity can emerge when that entity interacts with a larger external whole.- like each unique snowflake emerging into the air. This exhibition will represent books that express something new coming into view, something hidden being exposed, something new coming into being. These books can be symbolic of anything that physically emerges such as a flower from the soil or symbolizing some concept that can emerge such as a memory from the past. This year, we invite our members and emerging book artists who are new to the book arts to submit up to three works that evoke emergence. Emerging artists can submit an artist’ book representing the Emergence theme or any theme.

Select works will be exhibited from January 18 through February 21.
