“Indigenous Approaches, Sustainable Futures”

“Indigenous Approaches, Sustainable Futures” examines the intersecting themes of land, sustainability and identity within contemporary indigenous work. “Indigenous Approaches, Sustainable Futures” is a two-floor showcase of indigenous contemporary work including sculpture, printmaking, textiles, and photography. The exhibition runs from September 5, 2024 to November 12, 2024 and highlights over 25 national / international indigenous artists including emerging artists and Stockton alumni to artists recently featured in the Whitney Biennale, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
In addition to a catalogue and exhibition tours, programming includes artist lecture series, collaborative workshops, a Lenape youth outreach program, a full day of programming with scholars and community members for Indigenous People’s Day and a special projects course, “Art, Design & Folk Art: Indigenous Traditions & Global Contexts, with our visiting artist Tyrese “Bright Flower” Gould Jacinto.
“Indigenous Approaches, Sustainable Futures” features work by Anna Tsouhlarakis, Brian Adams, Brittany Johnson, Cannupa Hanska Luger, Citlali Fabian, Denise Bright Dove Ashton-Dunkley, Dyani White Hawk, Edgar Heap of Birds, Evan Benally Atwood, Jaida Grey Eagle, Jeremy Dennis, Joe Feddersen, Joey Montoya, Kali Spitzer, Kapulei Flores, Layqa Nuna Yawar, Leah Rose, Lehuauakea, Lily Hope, Meryl McMaster, Michael Namingha, Pat Kane, Phoebe Farris, Sarah Sense, Tom Fields, Tyrese Bright Flower Gould Jacinto & the Lenapehoking Indigenous Youth Program. “Indigenous Approaches, Sustainable Futures” was curated by Ryann Casey and features essays by Ashton Pemapanik Dunkley & Heather McCarty.
