Mother Archive: Reading and Conversation with Erika Morillo and Irit Reinheimer

Join us at H&H Books as author-artists Erika Morillo and Irit Reinheimer discuss Morillo’s book Mother Archive: A Dominican Family Memoir—now a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award in Autobiography!
In her book, Morillo reconciles the demons of her past, including a family murder kept secret, the mysterious disappearance of her father, the systematic erasing of family photographs, a turbulent relationship with her mother, and layers of generational trauma and abuse. These memories are intertwined with archival family photographs, news clippings, film stills, and artistic images.
In this conversation and reading, Morillo and Reinheimer will explore the use of photography to understand mothering, memory, and identity in the context of the Dominican-American immigrant experience.
